Copenhagen vs Valencia vs Berlin Half: Which SuperHalf Should You Run?
The SuperHalfs series is the dream lineup for runners who want performance and travel rolled into one. Among the six events, Copenhagen, Valencia and Berlin each bring something special, whether that’s flat courses, city views or race day experience. I’ve taken part in these 3 races at least once, here’s how they compare.
Entry & How to Get In
Securing a spot is no longer “first come, first served.” All three are using draw systems for 2026 and probably beyond, making it essential to plan ahead.
Copenhagen
Entry for the 2026 half was via a lottery. You must register for the draw during the official entry window to have a chance at a bib. There is however an official re-sale platform, where you can find a race entry closer to the event date.Valencia
From 2026 onwards, Valencia has switched to a ballot system too. First, there’s a short loyalty window for 2025 participants to register. Then the general public can enter a draw to claim from the remaining 25,000 bibs.Berlin
Berlin also moves to a lottery-style entry system as of 2026. Places will be allocated via draw and options through authorised tour operators or charity entries remain possible.
Course Comparison & Scenic Appeal
Which course gives you speed? Which one gives you views?
Copenhagen
Known for being very flat and fast. Its wide roads and few sharp turns give you breathing room. On top of that, you’ll pass striking architecture including the Marble Church, the Black Diamond library and Christiansborg Palace.Valencia
One of Europe’s fastest half-marathon courses. It’s designed to minimize tight bends and maximize straight, runnable stretches. You also get Mediterranean flair via coastal routes and open boulevards.Berlin
As flat as it gets, made for speed. The route takes you by iconic German landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the Victory Column. It delivers on performance and sightseeing.
For raw speed, Valencia often has the edge. For scenery and architectural beauty, Copenhagen and Berlin stand out.
Timing & Weather
Copenhagen
Usually mid September. It was sunny in 2024, heavily raining in 2025 so the weather can be unpredictable. And it’s always somewhat windy in Copenhagen!Valencia
Typically the last weekend of October, after the worst of summer heat has passed but before winter sets in. Conditions tend to be stable and favourable for fast running. The weather was perfect in 2024, but we had torrential rain in 2025 (the event was 2 days before the tragic floods).Berlin
Usually scheduled for early April. You get crisp spring air, which is great for long distances, though mornings can feel sharp. You’ll want to be ready for variable temperatures and bring a few throwaway layers!
Race Day Experience & Atmosphere
Copenhagen
The start area is energetic and well organised. Music zones and crowd support keep momentum going. Keep an eye out for the NBRO Running cheerzone at km 18, which is the best on! Plus, you don’t need to be in your starting pen ages in advance.Valencia
Very polished experience from expo to finish. Organised wave starts, smooth logistics and strong crowd support along key stretches make it feel like a well-oiled machine. You can get in your pen just before the start. The only downside is the expo, far out from the city centre.Berlin
A classic with soul. Running past monuments is unforgettable. The crowd support is strong, and the finish near the Brandenburg Gate feels iconic. The expo is really far from the city centre, don’t leave this to the last minute. And not only you need to arrive very early on race morning, but you’ll also walk about a mile between entering the event area and getting to the actual start line.
Final Thoughts: Choosing Your SuperHalf
It really comes down to your priorities:
Go Valencia if you want a fast course and are chasing a PB.
Choose Copenhagen or Berlin for the scenic run—getting architecture and beauty alongside performance.
Use the ballot knowledge: with all three using draws now, your strategy matters—where you log in, when, and whether you benefit from loyalty windows.
Pick based on time of year and travel convenience: Berlin is perfect for a Spring getaway, Copenhagen and Valencia deliver autumn destinations.
No matter which one you run, you’re getting a world-class route, experience and memories!
